Kathryn Chin See, Product Manager, BizPay, at MC Systems, says she is honoured to be recognised for her work in the tech space upon receiving the Woman of Impact Award by the Jamaica Technology Digital Alliance (JTDA) for her contribution as a woman in the science technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) field.

Miss Chin See received the award during the JTDA Members Mingle at the Courtleigh Hotel on April 4. Now in its second year, the Woman of Impact Award recognises the contribution of women who are trailblazers in the Jamaican STEAM industry.

“I feel honoured to be recognised by my peers in the industry for the work I have done over the years, and I thank the JTDA for this recognition,” said Miss Chin See. “I have dedicated myself to the upliftment and advancement of others – my focus is always on the mission and the task at hand, so it feels good to pause and recognise my own journey and accomplishments.”

Miss Alexia Beckford, Programme Manager, JTDA, said Miss Chin See was chosen based on her work in tech over the years and her service to the advancement of women in the IT sector.

“We engaged the members of the sector to find out about the women who have been making an impact and Miss Chin See was recommended. She has done exceptional work over the years and has also volunteered with the JTDA on various initiatives. Miss Chin See continues to advocate for more women to be involved in tech, and we felt that she was deserving of this award,” explained Miss Beckford.

Since joining MC Systems in 2014, Miss Chin See has served in various capacities, starting out as Verifone Point of Sale Support before moving on to Support Engineer and Presales in IT infrastructure. She then rebirthed the MADLab, MC Systems Make A Difference Innovation Lab, alongside some of her colleagues, before transitioning to her current role in product management.

Miss Chin See recounts her success in applying automation technology to a data processing activity that saw her strategically overcoming time and resource constraints, one of the high points in her career, The result of this activity created real business value by saving time, increasing revenue potential, and creating a learning and development opportunity for the client’s team. For her, having a positive impact on lives and livelihood is paramount.

Miss Chin See, who developed an interest in tech because of her love for gadgets and tinkering with toys and household appliances at a young age, explained that it is truly fulfilling to convert ideas and ways of thinking into tangible solutions that can transform people’s experiences. She hopes more women will enter the industry from any background and at any age and evolve their talents for greater impact and self-actualization.

“I welcome more women into the tech space and encourage them to challenge the status quo. One of my leaders shared a story where he went to an innovation lab overseas and met a woman whose training and expertise were actually in construction, where she started her career, and after some years, she was inspired to make a shift to software engineering, and here she was standing before him, leading this team of UX designers and software engineers. The possibilities are endless – never limit yourself,” Chin See encouraged passionately.

“I embrace my role as a product manager at MC Systems, a pioneering company in the tech space in Jamaica and the Caribbean, where there is no role that a woman can’t do. Whether it’s an IT infrastructure engineer, solutions architect, business analyst, UX designer, software engineer, or a role in leadership – women have excelled everywhere,” she added.
