The antics of Peter Rabbit and his merry band of relatives, in the movie, “Rascal, Rebel, Rabbit” provided a fun-filled afternoon for 68 students from Allman Town Primary School, arranged by JN Fund Managers Limited.

The students completed their Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) in March, and are awaiting results that are likely to be published in June. Their movie outing at the Palace Cineplex in Liguanea, St. Andrew, was organised by the investment management company to celebrate their efforts, as they out of the primary education system.

“Peter Rabbit was really amazing,” said Brianna Kenton, who is aiming to move on to St. Andrew High School for Girls. “I loved how Peter got around the owner of the vegetable garden, and then the relationship growing between the owner and the lady who adopted Peter’s family.”

Robinho Burton also enjoyed the movie, but from a somewhat different perspective.

“I especially liked the part where the rabbit’s ears got stuck in the car trunk,” the student, who is hoping to go to St. George’s College, stated. “The movie was awesome.”

On their April 21 outing, the students were chaperoned at the Cineplex by teachers from the school, and employees from JN Fund Managers.

“The students are under some pressure, based on the role that their exam results will have on their future,” said Sharon Whitelocke, deputy general manager, at the investment management company. “Our movie outing was, therefore, to provide them with relief from their exam result concerns.”

The deputy general manager pointed out that her organisation has assisted in enhancing the Allman Town school environment and, a special effort was made to reach out to the students themselves. She said that along with upgrading the bathrooms and drinking fountain during the past school year, team members from the investment management company also read to the students, and invited them to participate in a recent beach cleanup with JNFM staff members.

“Peter Rabbit is simply a fun movie, which can be enjoyed by adults and children alike,” Mrs Whitelocke said. “It was our way to contribute to their good memories from primary school, as they move on to high school.”

Located in Allman Town in eastern Kingston, the primary school has achieved success in introducing experimental teaching methods to improve the performance of underperforming students. One such experiment involved separating boys from girls in the lower school as they learn in different ways.

“I teach several subjects, and it has been my pleasure to guide these students,” said Nadine Bonner-Williams, Grade Six educator at the school.  “This movie is a good send-off for them.”
