JAA Can Take The Hassle Out Of Renewing Your Motor Vehicle Documents

3 min read minute(s) reading

Did you know that the Jamaica Automobile Association (JAA) can take the hassle and long wait at the tax office by renewing your motor vehicle documents for you?

The JAA, an auto club and a member of The Jamaica National Group, takes the hassle out of renewing your motor vehicle registration and fitness when you sign up for membership. And, the JAA also gives you a reminder before your documents expire.

“Going to the tax office to renew your motor vehicle documents can be a lengthy process depending on when you go. When you are a member of the JAA, we take away the waiting that you have to do at the tax office to renew your documents,” explained Mr. Coswayne Samms, manager, membership, JAA.

The motor vehicle registration renewal service is free for members but can be done at a cost for non-members.

To access the service, you can call the JAA at (876) 929-1200 and schedule your appointment. An authorized bearer will visit you to collect your documents and payment.

“For the motor vehicle registration, you will be required to either pay us directly using cash, bank transfer or a credit/debit card, and we will take your documents to the tax office for renewal,” he explained. “For renewal of the motor vehicle fitness, visit the website the Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) website at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm, pay for the renewal download and print the receipt and give it to our driver when the vehicle is collected. We will handle the rest by take the vehicle to the depot for the fitness check and certification then have the vehicle returned.

“These services are available to persons across the island. However, for those in rural Jamaica, you will be required to use cash for your motor vehicle registration renewal,” he added.

Mr. Samms explains that prior to the expiration date for documents, the JAA also reminds its members by email, text and phone call about the need to renew their documents.

“We advise all our members that their documents are up for renewal close to the expiration date because we want them to be compliant while driving on the roads,” he stated.

The manager for membership adds that apart from motor vehicle renewal, being a member of the JAA comes with additional benefits.

“We also have other services such as discounts at our merchant partners across the island, emergency road assistance, and a range of other solutions for you. So, do not hesitate to sign up because we have packages tailored for your needs,” he said.
